I dislike rangers.... except for this build
I've found the hideous damage ranger to be the most fun to play so here is a
fun R/Mo build for you guys to rip apart
mind you this build can do nothing except dish out damage.
Attributes
Marksmanship 12 +4
Expertise 8 +3
Smiting 10
Skills
Barrage
Dual Shot
Hunters Shot
Banish
Judges Insight
Read the Wind
Favorable Winds
Rez Signet
Gear
Any armor you want, I usually take the armor with the most energy bonus.
Add a 10% penetration bowstring and the 20% longer enchants grip so you dont need to cast as many judges insights.
What I do is throw up my favorable winds then buff judges insight and read the wind when they are about 2x my max range out after ive picked my first soft target.... Don't target the monk and heres why. Pick a necro or elem first when you start throwing barrages out left and right they should still be fairly packed together and each team member will take a nice chunk of damage the monk will stop to heal random team members or even himself and you can easily finish someone off before the fight even starts that way. Once people start to close move through the soft targets barraging and following up with dual shot which on average will do more damage than the other two skills generally someone will run when they get to 1/3 life throw a hunters shot followed by a banish and both should hit around the same time spiking for over 150 if your lucky. So far ive had alot of fun with this build and some good success with it as well it shreds necros I hit a few necs for over 170 with one dual shot hehe that just makes me all warm and fuzzy i must say.
Enjoy

Why not just be an elementalist if you want to do damage?

Firstly, Marksmanship has a marked decrease in being beneficial above a rank of 12, so take that down 4 notches. If you want to be dealing a lot of damage as a ranger, like other people have said, you really need Tiger's Fury. Ditch Banish, and use those spare points to put your BM up to 9.
Again, like someone already mentioned, Barrage and a preparation aren't going to be much use, so choose one or the other. Personally, I don't like Read The Wind much anyway because it only has half the duration of most preps, but without any points in Wilderness Survival, pretty much all other preps won't be an option. And, if you choose not to use a prep, replace Dual Shot with something else - I dunno, Penetrating Attack might be a better choice for damage, but Pin Down would be overall more useful.
Another thing that strikes me is you don't have any ranger skills that cost more than 10 energy, so take your Expertise down to 9 and it'll be just as effective.

Samuel, if you'd kindly take a look at THIS you'll see that with 16 in marksmanship, it is actually worth having.

JI and Banish: your expertise is already low enough as it is, why tax yourself with a 10 and 5 energy spell ? Dual Shot on 11 expertise ends up costing you 6 energy, 4 if you have a zealous grip. Good luck spamming that, Hunter's Shot is meh, bring Penetrating as it has a AP% and it'll stack with your JI. Read the Wind and Favorable Winds: usually you want favorable winds if you're running more than one ranger since imo it's a waste of skill. Read the Wind will be taken off right away by Barrage unless it's glitched and doesn't remove preps anymore. Rez sig is just sweet and should be in any build that can afford it
If you really want a high damage output, check out the Flame Slinger pre-made. As it is it's not all that great, but a few modifications to it can make that build VERY deadly. Integrate it in an 8 man team and get a friendly BiP and it gets outright sweet.

Why Dual Shot? Your only prep is Read The Wind, which doesn't add that much damage. Why not carry Penetrating Attack instead for it's quicker recharge?
